Yes, it is madness for the kids to go into Transition in Aberdeen to skate. Yes, we simply MUST start providing facilities for the youth in our town. Yes, sport activity is beneficial to all look at the strengths in Mountain Biking and Orienteering. And the prospect of a new Mountain Bike track at Bellwood is fantastic !. Similary, a Skatepark will be wonderful. It has only taken us NINE years as a Community to achieve it but well worth the wait in my view. I work with the youth of this town. The Skatepark is a must. But not in the playpark where will the toddlers go ? the primary age kids ?.And the Mums and Dads who bring them along ? Have MDL thought this through? Is this park under-utilised ? Do not get me wrong, I want a Skatepark. But I also want ALL leisure users given the same respect and the best facilities possible. So, rather than moan on about it here is my proposition which will avoid the forthcoming battle over the planning application. Surely a compromise is better than a battle ? Compromise by recognizing equal rights for the Playpark users and skaters. We all know that there are other sites for the Skatepark. Yes I know that the targeted site will be convenient for many skaters, but what about the Bellwood skaters or those beyond Bridgeview Road ?My compromise is flawed with bias as it favours the young children in the Playpark. But the best compromises make EVERYBODY happy. Will the skaters really be put off if the Skatepark is elsewhere ? Arguments that the targeted site is the only one will obviously be disproven at the Planning Stage. Likewise, any notion of the new Skatepark providing a facility for young kids is just plain daft when we have an existing area already. Finally, when the project began, I and others put on shows and raised funds to expand the Playpark and put up the current fences. It was seen as a legacy for every generations’ children, from the past and into the future. I want the Skatepark to be the same, but NOT at the expense of the youngest children. For the adults reading this, the Green and it’s Playpark are sacrosanct. To the Youth I say let’s get on and build something ALL the community can be proud of. http://www.sorethumbsblog.com/ says: April 29, 2016 at 03:33 These guys are dangerous morons, but a lot of young people, especially around this time of year, are going around dressed in the Australian Flag (specifically as a cape).I really appreciate the kind of understated, quiet until appropriately stirred, cynical, laconic patrotism of my childhood, before some started to embrace a more overt, American style of patriotism, which is, for me, symbolised by teenagers wearing their Aussie-Flag-cape. I expect many here will argue this is JWH’s doing, but I suspect modern entertainment and informational trends have something to do with it as well. http://www.tungolteam.com/ says: May 13, 2016 at 02:55 David, I really liked hearing your ideas/questions/frustrations regarding interactivity, particularly from your experience as a developer. I think your question of how much is enough is especially true because we are all facing limited technical knowledge and resources. I like your idea of the interactive map and area for comments; maybe it is less important to utilize the shiniest tools, but to implement what you do choose in the most effective way? At least that’s what I’m hoping. Container gardening is hard, especially with the hot weather, as they rely on you for all their moisture. Nice work and stick with it.
